Government urged to present proof "Rasa Sayange" song belong to RI
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian government should soon present authentic proof to Malaysia that the song "Rasa Sayange" belongs to Indonesia, and urge Kuala Lumpur to stop using it as the tune of its tourism promotion jingle, a lawyer said. "Now is the time for the Indonesian government to meet its Malaysian counterpart and prove that the song belongs to Indonesia," an intellectual property rights consultant, Dwi Anita Daruherdani, said her on Wednesday.
Daruherdani also urged the government to ask Malaysia to stop using the song as a jingle in its tourism promotions. She said certain parties in Indonesia had already produced a number of exhibits showing that the song is really a cultural product of one of Indonesia`s ethnic population groups. Maluku Governor Albert Ralahalu had claimed to have information that a search had revealed that the song was composed by a man named Paulus Pea. "If, based on written evidence, Paulu Pea is really the song`s composer, the next thing we need to pay attention to is the time span of the protection to be given to the creation," said Daruherdani, a consultant with Daruherdani & Partners Law firm. She said if the song`s composer was not known, then, based on Article 10, point 2 of the Law on Copyrights, it was the state that would hold the song`s copyright.
In order to have the right to hold the copyright on the song, the Indonesian government must collect and show proof that the song was really a folk song composed by an Indonesian, she said.
